Hello,
I'd like to apologize for the poor performance of the team. After the draft, we were very content with the roster we'd assembled for the upcoming season and thought it was top 4 in the league talent-wise.
However, things haven't panned out, and the team has hit an incredible turn of bad form and bad luck.
Due to slow recoveries from Steve Zakuani and David Ferreira (with Ferreira suffering a setback right before the season) we had no choice but to DP goalkeeper Josh Saunders. Well, the Galaxy have taken a huge step back without Omar Gonzalez and Saunders is no longer with the club. That said, we are excited about Joe Willis and believe he is an underrated, yet talented keeper.
With the club's first pick, we decided to select Hamdi Salihi of D.C. United. Along with Kris Boyd, Salihi was the most-hyped MLS import consider his goal-scoring record in the Austrian league and in international matches. Despite those accolades, and a offensively-proficient D.C. squad, Salihi has yet to register a single point, a large disappointment for such a high pick. He has since been temporarily relegated to the United bench, but the Stags are hopeful for a return to form. Perhaps he opens his account this week, D.C. has two fixtures.
The club's second round pick was Dane Richards. Richards had 14 points for the Red Bulls last year and had hovered around 10 or so in the couple of years before that. Now, with a prolific offense around him that is scoring goals left and right, Richards has only managed 1 point. This must be a terrible coincidence, and we expect Richards to rise again as well.
BTSC traded its 3rd round pick for Benny Feilhaber who scored 11 points in less than half a season in 2011. Unfortunately, Feilhaber has been injured or relegated to the bench for no reason by Jay Heaps, so he is also yet to score.
4th-rounder Steven Lenhart finally opened his account last week, but BTSC couldn't take advantage as he was left on the bench. Lenhart was not expected to start, and he didn't, which is why he was benched. But, he scored 2 late goals. Hopefully that brings a return to the starting lineup.
Finally, BTSC was stunned when Lionard Pajoy dropped to the club in the 5th round. Pajoy was drawing rave reviews in preseason. To this day he has still been given a tremendous opportunity to score; he's started each of Philadelphia's matches this season. Despite the starts, Pajoy has only scored once.
There you have it. Between the club's first five picks and DP David Ferreira, only two points have been registered. That's a recipe for disaster. We acknowledge the lack of luck but it is not for lack of preparation. Our only promise is that we will continue to work hard in the coming weeks. New additions Kai Herdling and Jairo Arrieta will both replace underperforming pieces and a healthy Feilhaber and starting Jose Moreno will put points on the board in New England.
We thank you for your patience. All season-ticket holders will receive a token of our apology, a 25% Off Gift Card to the Town Store via their SeasonStag accounts.
Thanks,
2010 B.T.S.C. Front Office
